"Gypsie Nation" is purely a creative play on words. Our organization has no association with the Roma culture, nor promote or teach any form of "gypsy dance". We chose the term "Gypsie" primarily for its embodiment of family and community. We chose the word “Nation” because it describes a gathering of people inspired and guided by the voices of Nature. Even though the word "Gyspy" is seldom used by the Roma people to describe themselves, and is often considered pejorative, the use of "gypsy" in English is now so pervasive that many Roma organizations use the word gypsy in their own names. In North America, the word "Gypsy" is often misunderstood as a reference to lifestyle or fashion, and not to the Roma ethnicity. We deeply wish to honor the entire nation of the Roma for their dedication to family and for their exquisite music. We hope that their love for life, and their ability to celebrate it no matter what, will continue to bring joy to a World that has misunderstood and persecuted them throughout the ages. May their hearts’ fiery passion be contagious, and keep us dancing and singing the World awake.
